Board

Classic Scrabble

The game is played on a square board with 225 (15×15) squares, where 60 squares are marked as premium, which multiply the number of points awarded: 24 double letter value (light blue), 16 double word value (pink), 12 triple letter value (blue), and 8 triple word value (red).

Superscrabble

Number of squares and tiles are almost doubled compared to the classic game. Additional premium squares are added with 4 quad word value and 8 quad letter value. The board is extended in each direction by three squares resulting in a size of 21x21 squares. Premium squares are arranged systematically.

Scrabble3D

3D-game with 2D view of current plane

With the newly introduced 3D game the board is not limited to two dimensions. That means additional to width and height you can play into the depth. The equivalent to the classic Scrabble has 15x15x15 squares which are rather called fields because it is a cube actually. The placement of tiles is supported by an additional 2D view which shows the currently active plane. This plane can be moved within the cube and switched to facilitate the placement of tiles in other dimensions. In any case the basic rules have to be met: only one dimension is allowed, tiles have to be placed consecutively, and all combinations should result valid words.

You may chose one of the predefined boards at the configuration. But it's also possible to create a completely new board layout with own premium and anti-premium squares.

Premium-/Malusfelder

Well known in the classic game are premium squares that double or triple the value of letters or words. And the quadruplication was introduced with Superscrabble. Scrabble3D offers in addition the option of anti-premium or malus squares. The value of tiles places on those malus square are subtracted from the total result multiplied by one, two, three or four.

The calculation starts always with the letters and consecutively for the word. For instance, a tile placed on a square that triple the letter value and another tile placed on the double word premium square, than the letter value is multiplied by 3 first and the result (added for all tiles) doubled again. Therefore it could make sense to place a tile even on a malus squares.

Tiles

In an English-language set, the game contains 100 tiles, 98 of which are marked with a letter and a point value ranging from 1 to 10. The number of points of each lettered tile is based on the letter's frequency in standard English writing; commonly used letters such as vowels are worth one point, while less common letters score higher, with Q and Z each worth 10 points.

The letter set should be adopted to boards with a different size. Superscrabble uses 200 tiles, twice as many as a normal set. And a 3D game can be played with even more tiles, which results in considerable longer playing time.

The letter set is freely configurable. You may choose from one of the predefined standard sets, but all parameters are easy to edit for any request.
